Purchasing Guide

A luxury pillow or duvet is an investment that can last many, many years, even a lifetime. When you purchase one, you want to get it right, especially since very few companies accept returns for down products. You should not buy in haste, so please carefully read this Purchasing Guide as well as the Product Care Guide and Terms of Sales, before you submit your order.

How to choose the right pillow

STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR PILLOW'S FIRMNESS

This 60-second survey will get you started on your journey to the perfect pillow. Score each question and add the numbers together. Please note that your sleeping position is an important factor.

WHAT IS YOUR BUILD/STATURE?
Small = 1
Medium = 2
Large = 3
HOW LARGE IS YOUR HEAD?
Small = 1
Medium = 2
Large = 3
HOW FIRM IS YOUR MATTRESS?
Soft = 1
Medium = 2
Firm = 3
WHAT IS YOUR SLEEP POSITION?
Stomach = 3
Back = 6
Side = 9

Add your scores together to determine your pillow firmness level:

 Soft: 6-8 Medium: 9-15 Firm: 16-18

If your survey score is at the higher end of one level, you might want to consider moving up to the next level of firmness. Down pillows do take some time to settle in. They will very gradually become softer over time, and typically take a few weeks or months to fully settle in. You should choose your pillow's firmness with this in mind.

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR PILLOW SIZE

We recommend these sizes to suit your mattress size. Smaller pillows tend to be more comfortable as the down does not drift as much.

Twin Bed 1 Regular or Queen size
Double Bed 2 Standard size
Queen Bed 2 Queen size
King Bed 2 King or 3 Regular size

How to choose the right duvet

STEP 1. CHOOSE A WEIGHT LEVEL

ULTRALIGHT: Designed for those who sleep hot, but still want a light covering and a touch of warmth.

SUMMER: For those who sleep warm, or in heated bedrooms and warm climates.

CLASSIC: Our most popular, it suits average people in average temperatures.

WINTER: This is the choice for people who feel the cold or like to sleep in cooler bedrooms. This weight is guaranteed to be warm enough.

If you are struggling to decide between two levels, we recommend choosing the lighter of the two. While we can add down to a duvet if you are not warm enough, we cannot remove it.

STEP 2. CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE

It may sound simple, but choosing the right size duvet is essential for a good night’s sleep. In use, a duvet should rest on top of the bed and settle around the sleepers. If a duvet is too big, it will be hanging over the sides of the bed, creating a pull that may disturb sleep.

We recommend Twin duvets for twin beds, Queen duvets for double and queen beds, and King duvets for king beds. It's also important to consider the height of your mattress when deciding on the size of your duvet. If your King-size mattress is over 15 inches thick you will need a Super King Duvet. Custom sizes are available as well.

Duvet Dimensions:

EURO TWIN 54" X 92" for the 2-duvet system (2 smaller duvets on 1 King or Queen bed)
TWIN 72" X 86" for Twin beds
QUEEN 90" X 92" for Queen and Double beds
KING 108" X 92" for King beds
SUPER KING 114" X 98" for King bed with mattress over 15 inches

Please Note: A Queen size mattress over 15 inches thick will not be fully hidden by the overhang of a Queen duvet.

DUVET SHELLS

All of our tickings have been specially selected for their down-proof weaves and superb quality. Our specially woven German tickings utilize Vital-Finish, resulting in superior moisture wicking and breathability. Our Embassy Duvet has a unique batiste ticking made of TENCEL™ lyocell and cotton. This fabric is light, airy, and has a crisp feel that makes it feel more buoyant than a sateen weave. Please note that, because of the nature of the weave, the Embassy has a comforting “rustle” compared to a duvet with a sateen ticking. TENCEL™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG.

SUSTAINABILITY

We are proud to offer many sustainable options for down. St Genève Eiderdown is hand-collected from a sanctuary in Quebec called Duvetnor, while James Bay down is collected by First Nations people of Canada. In addition, Embassy, Salzburg, Ziegler, Lajord and Estate come from free-range family run farms. We are committed to ensuring that all of our down is collected ethically. St Genève, as a member of the Down Association of Canada, is subject to regular audits for standards.
